Creating Beauty Through Connection
Jan 29, 2025I spent many years in the world of advertising, where I developed a deep appreciation for design and the tireless work that goes into creative campaigns. The work must hold beauty and function. I especially respect the blood, sweat, and tears of the creative teams. Their work often offers a glimpse into their souls—a thrilling experience on good days, but deeply vulnerable and unnerving on bad ones. When the bad days come, getting back up to try again can be excruciating.
We are all creatives in some form or fashion—artisans of life. But somewhere along the way, we can lose touch with the part of our soul that longs to be seen...our original design. Clouds can creep in when we are judged, rejected, or misunderstood. When the process of life feels meaningless, or when we’re told to dim the light of our soul, the clouds gather.
Understanding the Clouds
Our original human design is rooted in safety and survival, so sometimes those clouds are necessary to protect us—until we’re ready to let our soul shine again. These clouds provide what we need in those moments of uncertainty. But when the clouds stick around they can feel like anxiety, confusion, uncertainty, or feeling stuck. They may whisper, “I’m not good enough,” “What’s the use?” or “I’m just so tired.” But what if I told you that these clouds are here to guide you to freedom? Nature offers a beautiful metaphor for understanding how.
A cloud is a safe place. Just as the sun hides behind clouds for protection, your soul can find solace there until it’s ready to emerge again.
A cloud is a message. Feelings of uncertainty, overwhelm, frustration, or pain are not the enemy—they’re messages from your body, crying out for help.
Clouds bring clarity. Even when the clouds cover the sun, we know the light is still there. When we embrace the pain and move through it, we find the light on the other side.
A cloud is a promise. Just as the sun always returns, your soul and body can find healing and shine in the world again, just as it is meant to.
Finding Safety to Let Your Soul Shine
So, how can you reconnect with your soul and allow it to shine? For me, the answer lies in finding connection with safety:
Connecting to my soul.
Connecting to my body.
Connecting to nature.
Connecting to others.
When I do this, the pain diminishes. Clarity and creativity return. I remember I can find trust and safety in my authentic soul, allowing the forgotten and hurt parts of me to come home and heal. And I reconnect to my purpose: the beauty I create is needed in this world—right now, in this moment.
